Damp or seepage on your walls?
Damp patches (seelan), peeling paint and white salt marks have different causes: rain, a leaking pipe, or water coming up from the ground. A mistri finds the cause first, because painting over a damp wall does not fix it.
Estimate after the visit
Tell us which walls are damp and share photos. A mistri visits, finds the cause and gives you an estimate before any work.
- Cause checked first: rain, pipe or water from the ground
- Damp plaster removed and redone
- A damp treatment or coating suited to the wall
- Paint only after the wall has dried
Damp or seepage on your walls?
Why does the paint on my wall keep peeling?
Water inside the wall pushes the paint off from behind. Repainting does not stop it. The source of the water has to be fixed first and the wall has to dry, then it can be painted.
Could a pipe inside the wall be leaking?
Yes. If the damp patch stays or grows even in dry weather, a pipe may be leaking. Call a plumber to test the pipes before any wall treatment, otherwise the treatment will be wasted.
There are switches or sockets on the damp wall. What should I do?
Do not touch them with wet hands. Switch off the power for that room at the main board, and keep using other rooms. Ask an electrician to check the wiring before the wall is used again.
